Sri Lanka has launched a visa-free entrance policy for travelers from India and six other countries, including China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand. This advancement paves the way for smooth traveling between these two countries.
While this is an important development, it’s also worth considering the broader picture of visa-free travel alternatives accessible to Indian nationals worldwide.
Previously, Indians visiting Sri Lanka required an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) document. Passengers were required to show this document upon arrival. This Electronic Travel Authorisation document has a validity period of 30 days and would cost the travelers INR 2080.
When it comes to overseas travel, the first thing that comes to mind is usually securing a visa. However, there are a few countries where Indian citizens do not need a visa and others where they can obtain one upon arrival.
According to Henley and Partners’ 2023 Passport Index, Indian passport holders can travel 57 countries without a visa. Furthermore, Indian nationals can visit the countries listed below by getting an e-visa or entrance authorization.
